Cojimar is a small fishing village east of Havana. Of all small Cuban towns Cojimar was chosen by a very unique person as a place of residence and inspiration; it was there were papa Hemingway wrote the world famous “The Old Men and the sea” for which he won the Nobel Prize for literature. Ernest Hemingway made Cuba his place of residence for over 20 years. More than natural attractions Cuba offered him the warmth of its people and made papa Hemingway an adopted son. His love for Cuba was reciprocal; when the Nobel Prize was giving to him he placed it in the sanctuary of the “Virgin de la Caridad del Cobre”, the island's patron saint. Back then you will often find him at “La Terraza” a restaurant favored by the famous writer. Hemingway was so much an adopted Cuban son he will wear the Cuban Guayabera shirt to many occasions, the shirts he wore were the traditional 100% linen shirt. No one can tell the Guayabera is famous only because it was worn by Mr. Hemingway but he sure helped in his popularity.
